If you are wanting to recycle but your not sure how to start, here are some tips. The first thing to d is decide that you are going to recycle. It is so much easier to just throw it in the trash. However with a little effort you can cut your landfill contributions in half. The second step is to decide what you are going to recycle. There are different places to go.
Paper Recycling - all around Mansfield there are yellow and green dumpsters ready to receive. There is one at Tarver Rendon. You will find them at most schools and even the post office. You can drop off newspaper, flattened cardboard, shredded paper, etc. There is more information on the container itself. The schools earn money for whatever is collected so you are helping the school and the environment. Put a recycle bin in your office next to the shredder.
Aluminum - on Hwy 1187 and J Rendon Road you will find a scrap metal receiving center. Bring in your bag of cans and they will give you cash. A large trash bag of crushed cans is worth about $10. You can crush your cans by stepping on them or with a hand crusher. Use a 30-50 gallon trash can next to a can crusher.
Glass, Tin Cans and Plastics - the City of Burleson operates a drop off center on Haskew Street. It is open Tuesday through Friday 2PM-6PM and on Saturdays from 8AM to noon. You'd be surprised by what they will accept, Plastics #1 through 5 & #7, unbroken glass bottles and jars of all colors, tin cans, aluminum cans, empty aerosol cans, dry newspaper, phone books, catalogues, magazines, writing paper, mail and cardboard. The will not accept Plastics #6 , bags marked #2 HDPE and #4 LDPE, styrofoam and styrofoam cups, to-go containers (including pizza boxes), lids, caps and sprayers, aluminum foil and pie plates, wet or yellowed newspaper, books, cookware, ceramics, utensils, cups, dishes and glasses, light bulbs and window glass, toys and batteries. Put a recycle bin right in your kitchen and take a second to decide which bin to use.
Recycle bins are available for sale at Lowes and Home Depot. You can also use a normal trash can. The recycle bins tend to come with stickers to designate plastics, glass, etc.
