Mulch Fest II

New mulch was delivered for the playground. Thanks to those who helped at Mulch Fest I!!! Mike has scheduled Mulch Fest II for Saturday, Dec 1 at 2pm, grab a shovel and bring a wheelbarrow if you have one, see you there!

Progress at the Pavilion!

Mike Bubel directed the recent addition of the sidewalk at the Pavilion, making it possible for folks to get from the parking lot to the Picnic Shelter and alongside the pond without having to tramp through grass and/or mud. The sprinkler system has been hooked up to the Bethesda Water meter as well (it previously utilized pond water). Several areas were seeded and are being watered in order to get grass established, they are marked with “new grass” signs.

Mulch Fest

Yes, the time is finally here! The day you have been waiting for…………..
It’s MULCH FEST time!
We are having a few truck loads of mulch delivered to the playground to replenish the
ground cover this Friday (11/16). So this weekend we need lots of volunteers to
spread mulch……….and man-o-man is that ever fun!
I will be there Saturday afternoon about 1pm to get the fun underway. You
could bring along, rakes, shovels, wheel barrows, trash cans…….whatever you think
would help to move mulch around.
Its going to be a GREAT TIME so don’t miss it!
There will be fabulous prizes, open bar, and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders!
(that is a total dramatization of course, but you get the idea)

See Ya at MULCH FEST!

Commission Seeks Volunteers for Vacant Warranty Advisory Committee Seats

(AUSTIN) – The Texas Residential Construction Commission is accepting applications for seven seats on its 12-member warranties and building and performance standards advisory committee. The committee reviews proposed changes to the state-adopted minimum warranties and performance standards.
Commission-assigned inspectors use the warranties and standards to evaluate alleged post-construction
defects in homes. Since these warranties and standards affect homeowners across Texas, the commission
seeks interested volunteers statewide to assist in the regular review and update of the warranties and
standards.

The Texas Residential Construction Commission is accepting applications to fill the seats of members
who have resigned or whose terms expire in February 2008. The commission needs to fill the following
seats:

  • One professional engineer certified by the commission;
  • One homeowner who is not employed or involved in residential construction;
  • Two persons who have experience representing consumers or homeowners;
  • One registered small-volume builder/remodeler (fewer than 10 homes registered each
    year) or the registered agent of a small-volume builder/remodeler;

  • One registered large-volume builder/remodeler (more than 100 homes registered each year)
    or the registered agent of a large-volume builder/remodeler; and

  • One attorney who primarily represents builders/remodelers.

“As building industry practices, construction techniques and customer expectations change, standards need to evolve as well. This committee aids the commission in its duty to make sure the standards and warranties
properly reflect Texans’ needs and desires in the future,” said Duane Waddill, the commission’s executive
director.

The commission will select committee members at a future open meeting. The commISSIon cannot
compensate committee members in any way, nor can it reimburse members for any travel expenses. Although this committee only meets twice a year, members who serve in this advisory capacity truly provide a public service to their fellow Texans, Waddill said. A faculty member from the Texas A&M University‘s
Construction Sciences Department chairs the committee meetings.

Waddill said the committee’s recommendations will be an integral part of the commission’s evaluation of
possible updates to the warranties and standards.

For more information or to apply to be a member of the advisory committee, Texans can contact the
commission toll free at (877) 651-TRCC.
